

Rising Kindergarten
Students
1. Read The Night Before Kindergarten by
Natasha Wing.
A. On
construction paper, draw (or paint, cut and paste—whatever you
like!) a picture of something you
are really excited about doing in
Kindergarten.
B. Have
your parents help you write on the bottom of the paper
explaining
what you are really excited about in Kindergarten.
C. Make
sure you put your name on the paper.
2. Read
How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? By Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.
A. Choose
your favorite dinosaur.
B. Using
any materials you wish, create your favorite dinosaur and
show what he might do at your school!
C. Dictate
a sentence that Mom or Dad can write on your paper telling the
name of your dinosaur and what your dinosaur is doing.
D. Write
your name on the paper.
3. Read Grandma’s Treasure Chest by Janet
Mary Sinke.
A.
Use a small shoe box to create your own treasure chest.
B. Decorate
your treasure box in any way you choose.
C. Put some things in your treasure box that are
”treasure” to you—you may put in the actual items, pictures of the items, or
magazine cutouts of the things you treasure.
D. Put your
name on all items sent in.
These
completed activities will be displayed in our hallway and classroom. We will begin the school year doing
additional activities to further explore these books.
