On September 3, 1924, Holy Trinity Catholic School opened its doors to the beginning of a long standing heritage
of offering quality elementary education and Christian development. Through the planning and development by Revered Robert Kealey, and
with the tutelage of four faithful Sisters of the Holy Cross, this quaint catholic school on the Chesapeake Bay dawned 85 years ago.
The initial enrollment consisted of 103 students, and to support its rapid growth, a parish high school was added in 1927, opening with
30 students. The school’s gymnasium was constructed in 1937, and later additions to the school in 1952 and 1960 answered the expanding
need as the enrollment peaked at 1305 students in grades kindergarten - eighth.
Effected by the mid-century rural development in Hampton Roads, enrollment decreased as Norfolk’s population moved out of the city
toward Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. No longer in use, the original wing of the school was demolished, with desks and bricks being sold as souvenirs.
Gradually through the years, lay teachers replaced the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
In 1985, the Early Childhood Program was established in the first floor east wing of the building and an extended care program was developed.
Holy Trinity began the 1988 school year with the entire faculty composed of lay teachers. The departure of Sisters saddened the
Holy Trinity family, however, Mrs. Angelina Pascua, the first lay principal, provided a smooth and caring transition.
In 1994, the Angie Fitzpatrick Wing was dedicated. Angie, a 1947 graduate of Holy Trinity School, served as a teacher and coach at
Trinity. Generous contributions given in her memory enhanced the facility for the Early Childhood Center.
Today, Holy Trinity enjoys a diverse population. The students come from various cities in Hampton Roads, with a majority
living in the communities surrounding the school. We have been blessed with a dedicated and sincere principal, Mrs. Deneane Nofplot,
who began guiding Trinity in 1996 and continues today providing devoted leadership to our school. Through Mrs. Nofplot's vision,
Holy Trinity has seen many continued upgrades to the facility and advances to its technology and academic curriculum; the latter she
attributes largely to a creative and talented faculty and staff.
The history of Holy Trinity taps deeply into the community, with
many of our students attending as second, third, and fourth generation HTS Spirits!
Holy Trinity looks toward the 21st century, as a place where students receive a quality Catholic education, learning about
God and being encouraged to pray. With a full Pre-K to eighth grade curriculum, computer and internet access, renovated full-service
kitchen / cafeteria, gymnasium and athletic field, before and after school care, and a young, dynamic faculty, we guide our students
on their way to a successful future.
We are happy to welcome Father Daniel Beeman, appointed to our parish in 2009. His vibrant character and his rich hold to Catholic
tradition is a wonderful element of our community. He supports and guides us well in our mission to further the moral and faith
development of our students.
For the last 85 years, Holy Trinity has been a part of the lives of area children. Holy Trinity's doors are always open to visitors.
We welcome new families to come in and feel the warmth and security that our faculty and staff provide -- the feeling of the Holy Trinity Spirits!
